Kinect Reviews
Kinect is here! And here’s what the reviews has said…(the good and the bad)
We love the accuracy of Move, and the Wii will always hold a place in our hearts as the console that first got us jumping around like loonies, but we reckon Kinect is going to deliver the greatest gaming thrills this Christmas.
- Luke Westaway from CNET UK
Would I buy it? Right now, probably not, but mainly because my gaming experience is that of a single player. Would I suggest it to families or those looking for a fun, engaging social gaming experience? Definitely.
- Chris Anderson from CNNGo
With Kinect, Microsoft has the potential to reinvent not only computer gaming today, but perhaps the computer interface of tomorrow.
- Kevin C. Tofel from BusinessWeek
If Kinect becomes nothing more than a replacement for the TV remote, it’ll prove to be a winner. For its launch price, though, it needs to be more.
- Stephen Totilo from Kotaku
For now Kinect is an impressive opening gambit by Microsoft, currently focused at the ‘casual’ users but with the potential to influence even the most hardcore of genres in the right hands.
- Michael Plant from The Independent
There is undoubtedly a limit to the Kinect’s capabilities, but we suspect it hasn’t been reached yet. On the other hand, Kinect can be a tremendous amount of fun for casual players, and the creative, controller-free concept is undeniably appealing.
- Scott Lowe from IGN Gear
Overall I found Kinect to be a very promising piece of technology, and one that could certainly make its way into other media and entertainment systems in the future.
- Oliver Chiang from Forbes.com
The Kinect as hardware is great, but there’s plenty of room for software engineers and UI designers to improve.
- Ross Miller from Engadget
These are the hopes and dreams of every 6-year old child come-true. It’s the sort of technology we only dreamed about while watching ’60s TV series’ like The Jetsons as kids.
- Mike Jackson from TechRadar UK
It’s also hard to justify the $150 price tag right now — especially when you need to purchase a whole raft of new games at $50 a pop just to use the thing. You also need a lot of space — way more than either the Wii or PlayStation Move requires, and this is a big problem.
- Jason Chen from Gizmodo
Despite plenty of initial skepticism, Kinect is proving to be a pretty cool gadget with lots of wow! power…. the kind of thing that really might change the way people play games.
- Winda Benedetti from Technolog
Microsoft Kinect may lack the fine character control of the Move, but it adds the promise of an expanded breadth of activities in front of the gaming console.
- Ron Harris from The Associated Press
Kinect has just taken a huge new leap into the future of gaming. The human body has become the world’s most advanced game controller, making for incredibly immersive gameplay.
- Nicholas Stone from NYPOST.com
For practical, everyday gaming, Kinect comes across as a wonderful idea with tremendous potential that’s still in need of a smarter interface and better controls.
- Matt Peckham from PC World
At $149.99, people are a little more cautious and reserved. Still, for what it is and what it can do, I would have to recommend picking up one if you are interested.
- Paul Battani from Platform Nation
Though the Kinect is not for long time gamers, but rather casual players, and that is where the Kinect shines, because at the core of everything is the one simple fact that the Kinect is fun.
- Ryan Fleming from Digital Trends
Kinect won’t cater to the hard-core gaming market — it’s just not accurate enough. But it’s rollicking great fun. Exhausting and ridiculous, you’re guaranteed a giggle if you get the kids involved or set it up at your next party.
- Luke Westaway from CNET UK
At this moment, the Kinect isn’t a must-own. I’d recommend a wait and see approach, unless you’re planning to buy the Kinect in the $299.99 Xbox bundle.
- Ebenezer Samuel from NYDailyNews.com
If Microsoft Kinect is able to deliver all that it has promised its audience, it won’t be long before we begin including “Kinecting” as a form of exercise. After all, you are in for one hell of a physically exerting video gaming experience!
