Microsoft on Feb. 1 will roll out Kinect for Windows which gives developers easy access to the capabilities offered by the a new & improved version of the Kinect sensor connected to computers running the Windows 7 and Windows 8 Developer Preview.

The new firmware enables the depth camera to see objects as close as 50 centimeters in front of the device without losing accuracy or precision. However, the sensor will only work on computers running the SDK software.

With Kinect for Windows, soon we’ll be scrolling through email by waving our arms, or maybe saving documents using our hand gestures ala minority-report style.
